There was always one, though, who had a flashlight. Now, that one was always my hero! I would stay close by that light, so I would know that my next step would be safe and I wouldn't accidentally step on a venomous snake, or fall in a hole. Even with a quickly beating heart, that light brought peace. It kept me on the right path, so I didn't wander and get lost or hurt.
The Psalmist wrote in Psalms 119:105 these words - "Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."
This journey through life is very similar to that trek through the woods in the dark as a kid. We can't see where the noise is coming from; we don't know where a path leads; we wonder if we should accept that new job offer; we wonder if this is the person we should spend our lives with; we wonder where to go to college; we wonder if we should speak up about a questionable practice our boss tells us to carry out. The list goes on.
The great news is that we have been given the gifts of the Holy Spirit and God's Word! He is the only one who knows our future. He has given us a lamp for our feet and a light for our path in His Word. It really is a guide for us.
I find that when I spend time praying and asking Him to speak to me through the words written in the Bible, He is always faithful and teaches me something new. His word is a living word. It speaks to our hearts and it changes our lives.
His word is a lamp for our feet, so we can see just the next step He wants us to take. And it is a light for our path, so we can see a little bit ahead of where we are, but not too far. Our faith walk grows when we can't see the future. Our lives need to be enveloped in complete trust of Jesus and His word. This lamp and light we have been given are the guaranteed best way to do this journey called "life". He has our best interest at the heart of all He does. Take His light... and watch your step!
